Hall
Born and raised in Saint John, NB, Michael came from a very musical background.
With strong roots in Scottish, Irish and French Acadian background, Michael was
exposed to Celtic music from birth.
At the age of 12, Michael was introduced to a former resident of Port Hood, NS,
Alex Lewis MacDonald who was a very good violin player. Frequent visits to the
MacDonald home throughout his teenage years without every stepping foot on Cape
Breton. Finally at 19, he attended a birthday party of Maybelle Chisholm
MacQueen where he met a rising young piano player from Cheticamp, Jason Roach.
Over the next number of years, Michael traveled to the New England states and
performed frequently all over Cape Breton Island at dances, concerts and pubs.
Michael's appreciation and love for dance music is apparent in his playing. His
tune selection, timing and ornamentation creates a very tasteful style.
Michael currently works for Irving Oil in Saint John, NB and is exploring
possibilities of doing a recording of his own in the near future.
